Is Ventral Phalloplasty Genital Contouring Right for You?

Is Ventral Phalloplasty Genital Contouring Right for You?

The average length of an erect penis is between 5.1 and 5.5 inches, and a flaccid one is about 3.6 inches.

But for some men who have a scrotum that engulfs their penis, it can look shorter.

If your scrotal tissue makes your penis look smaller than it actually is, Dr. Robert J. Cornell performs a ventral phalloplasty genital contouring procedure that can reveal its true length. According to one study, 84% of men who had ventral phalloplasty reported improvement.

Let’s take a look at who might be a good candidate and what the procedure entails.

Uncovering the true size of your penis

The main purpose of your scrotum is to protect important reproductive organs, such as your testicles and epididymides. Your scrotum’s thick skin and muscle provide good internal temperature control for your sperm.

The muscle and skin of the scrotum are loose. In some men, they can also be large and attach high up the underside of the penis, creating a webbed effect.

As a result of this webbing, your penis can appear shorter as it gets lost in the loose tissues of your scrotum.

Through our genital contouring procedure, we uncover the true size of your penis by removing some of the excess skin in your scrotum to reveal more length.

Combining ventral phalloplasty with a penile implant

At our practice, we treat many patients for erectile dysfunction, and we also perform penile implants. Some of our patients combine the penile implant procedure with a ventral phalloplasty to enhance both function and appearance.

Performing ventral phalloplasty, step by step

Let’s dive into what Dr. Cornell does during this procedure. First, we use general anesthesia for a ventral phalloplasty. Even so, it’s mostly an outpatient procedure, so you can still go home the same day.

The surgery itself is fairly simple. Dr. Cornell makes a checkmark-shaped incision in your scrotum, removes the excess tissue, reconfigures attachment points, and then sutures the incision.

Once we make sure everything went well, we send you home with complete aftercare instructions, covering everything from suture care to bathing. Length of recovery depends upon how quickly you heal, but count on at least a few weeks of sexual downtime.
