Do you find it difficult to initiate urination? Or do you need to get up frequently throughout the night to urinate? These are just two of the many urinary symptoms that can come with benign prostate hyperplasia.
You’ve tried everything to address your erectile dysfunction, but the results leave you less than satisfied. The next step is a penile implant, but you’re worried about how the device will impact your sexual relations. While there will be a “new normal,” to some extent, any adjustments will be quickly overshadowed by how great you feel getting your sex life back on track.
At our men’s health center, Dr. Robert Cornell excels in the field of penile implants, and he has extensive experience helping our patients regain healthy sexual function. We use only the best products on the market and choose them based on quality, efficacy, and patient satisfaction.
So, if you’re wondering about what to expect during sex after you receive a penile implant, read on.
In general, there are two different types of penile implants:
With these implants, Dr. Cornell places a semi-rigid rod in your penis that you can straighten for an erection and bend back down for concealment. The insertion is a fairly simple procedure, which we perform here in our office on an outpatient basis.
More popular are our inflatable implants, which include one or two inflatable silicone tubes (which we place into your penis) and a pump (which we place into your scrotum). When you want to achieve an erection, you simply press on the pump in your scrotum and the tubes inflate. When you’re finished, you simply press the pump again to drain the tubes back into the pump.
Here again, the implantation is fairly simple, and we make only a small incision in your scrotum to insert the tubes and the pump.
The penile implants we use are designed to be unobtrusive and require only one simple, discreet step to achieve your erection.
One of the biggest concerns we encounter is whether a penile implant will affect your sensitivity or ability to ejaculate. We’re pleased to report that penile implants affect neither.
One of the advantages of an inflatable penile implant is that it increases the length and girth of your erection.
With penile implants, you’re in complete control of your erection at all times, which certainly can’t be said of a natural erection.
The bottom line is that our patients who receive penile implants are overwhelmingly satisfied with the end results. Our experiences here are mirrored by a survey by American Medical Systems, the manufacturer we use for our inflatable implants, which found that 90% of patients were happy with their implants.
