4 Men’s Health Concerns We Want to Highlight

4 Men’s Health Concerns We Want to Highlight

Sure, men and women share many of the same health concerns, such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease, but they also have gender-specific issues that benefit from specialized care.

Our team, which is under the expert direction of Dr. Robert J. Cornell, understands this very well, which is why we offer targeted and skilled men's healthcare.

In the following, we dive into a few of the more common health concerns that we see among our male patients and how we can help.

1. Erectile dysfunction

The numbers surrounding erectile dysfunction (ED) in the United States are hard to pin down, thanks to reporting issues, but research has uncovered that more than half of men experience the problem at some point. Wherever the final tally falls, suffice it to say that ED is a common problem among men.

While the ED on its own is problematic — a healthy sex life can contribute to overall wellness — the issue can also be a symptom of something much larger, such as heart disease.

Our point in bringing this up is that men shouldn’t hide their ED. Not only can we treat the issue to reignite your sex life, we can also investigate further to see if we can improve your health in other areas.

2. Infertility

Infertility around the world is a common problem and affects 1 in 6 people. While some people might assume that the issue lies with the female, the reality is that male infertility is responsible for 20% of all cases of infertility and is a contributing factor in another 30% to 40% of cases.

So, if you and your partner are struggling to conceive, it’s important to look at both sides of the equation, and we can handle the male side here. Through extensive testing and an evaluation, we can help get to the bottom of an infertility issue.

3. Enlarged prostate

Men have a small organ that produces semen called a prostate, and this gland can be highly problematic for its relatively small size and role.

By the age of 60, about half of men will have an enlarged prostate, which is called benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). This number jumps to 90% by the age of 85.

BPH can make your life challenging, as the growth can impede your urinary tract and lead to bladder issues and incontinence.

The good news is that we offer several BPH treatments to help get your urinary function back on track.

4. Mental health

This last issue isn’t necessarily one that we treat, but we want to bring it up. Mental health is a growing problem in the United States, and it’s blind to age and gender.

Culturally, many men think it’s a weakness to have a mental health challenge. Our view is that there’s great strength in addressing your mental health, which can improve your wellness in other areas of your health, including your sexual health.

So, if you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, or another issue, let us know, and we can point you in the right direction for help.

The best way to stay one step ahead of these common problems and to keep your health on track is to see us regularly for targeted men’s healthcare. To get that ball rolling, please contact our office in Houston, Texas, to schedule a consultation.
